Ayodhya Naimisharanya

The historical city of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama is the destination of a pilgrimage called Ayodhya Yatra. Religion, culture and history all contribute to the importance of making a pilgrimage to Ayodhya. Ayodhya is one of the seven sacred cities (Saptamokshapuris) of Mathura, Maya (Haridwar), Kasi (Varanasi), Kanchi (Kanchipuram), Avantika (Ujjain) and Dwaravati (Dwarka). While traveling, they are able to spend some time in the city that was the spiritual home of their most revered god. The pilgrimage is an opportunity to reflect on one’s faith and pray to deities like Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman. The importance of pilgrimage to Ayodhya can be expressed in the following manner.

Lord Rama, Maryada Purushottam in His feet lies the welfare of the entire world.

sakṛd eva prapanno yas tavāsmīti ca yācate
abhayaṁ sarvadā tasmai dadāmy etad vrataṁ mama

Lord Rama said, if someone seeks refuge in me just once and declares, “I am yours”, I promise to grant them complete freedom from fear. This pledge is solemn and unwavering. (Valmiki Ramayana 6.18.33)

Birthplace of Lord Rama

It is widely held that Lord Rama, one of the most famous incarnations of Lord Vishnu, was born and raised in the city of Ayodhya. Yatras are journeys that devotees perform in order to reach the location of Ram Janmabhoomi, also known as the birthplace of Lord Rama. The Ayodhya Yatra is a pilgrimage that typically involves a stop at the Ram Janmabhoomi, which is widely regarded as the holiest location in the city of Ayodhya. It has been believed for hundreds of years that this location is where Lord Rama was born, which contributed to the site’s rise to importance.

Just by visiting the birthplace of Rama can one be liberated from the cycle of rebirth, without having to engage in activities such as charity, penance, sacrifice or pilgrimage to holy places.

In summary, the Ayodhya pilgrimage represents a venerable pilgrimage that encompasses the essence of religious devotion, spiritual enlightenment and preservation of cultural heritage Pilgrims make this sacred pilgrimage to seek divine grace, encounter the holiness of Ayodhya and with the ageless legend surrounding Lord Rama communicates.

Finest Journey Feedback

We had an excellent and uneventful trip to Char Dham yatra by helicopter, which Punya Kshetras had extremely well organised and arranged. They responded quickly to my emails and addressed my concerns while planning our trip. Given the difficult roads we had to navigate, having a good driver was critical - the journey was excellent and marvellous in terms of keeping us safe. The sadhus acted as our guides, and we are glad we chose them because they did an excellent job of explaining everything in detail. Punya Kshetras chose some of the best hotels for us to stay in (many of them right on the banks of beautiful rivers), and the majority of the hotel staff were extremely helpful.
