America, often seen as a symbol of the world’s greatest nation and home to some of the most beautiful places on Earth, inspires a deep desire in many to visit. The America Yatra is undertaken by the devotees of the Hare krishna Movment with a profound spiritual vision and dedication. During this journey, devotees visit sacred places, temples, and centers of historical significance connected to the Krishna bhakti tradition across the United States.
At the heart of this spiritual movement stands A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896–1977), the great spiritual master who introduced the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition to the Western world, especially to America. On September 17, 1965, Prabhupada arrived in New York (via the Boston port) aboard the cargo ship “Jaladuta.” At the age of 69, he came without money or companions, carrying only the Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, and an unshakable faith in Lord Krishna. In the early days, he lived under very challenging conditions in New York City. He began chanting the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra and delivering lectures in parks and small apartments. The youth of the time, especially those influenced by the hippie movement, were deeply drawn to his teachings.
On July 13, 1966, Prabhupada founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in New York, which later became globally known as the Hare Krishna Movement.
As part of this America Yatra, devotees will visit major ISKCON temples, Vaishnava spiritual centers, and places of historical importance related to Lord Krishna across the United States. One of the important stops on this journey is the Radha Gopinath Temple and Bhakti Center (ISKCON New York).
Other significant destinations include BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, ISKCON New Vrindavan (West Virginia), New Vrindavan (Los Angeles), New Dwaraka Temple, and many other renowned Krishna temples throughout America. In addition to these spiritual landmarks, participants will also visit iconic attractions such as Niagara Falls and the Golden Gate Bridge etc.
This 17-day journey promises to be an experience of immense joy—an indescribable and boundless spiritual pilgrimage.
During the America Yatra, devotees engage in a variety of spiritual activities, including:
Chanting the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra
Listening to discourses and lectures delivered by senior devotees
Participating in devotional rituals, worship services, and festivals
This journey serves as a path to spiritual renewal, cultural enrichment, and a deeper connection with the ever-growing global community of devotees, bringing countless people closer to the path of Krishna consciousness.
